John Khamis (sounds like: Kuh-gh-HAY-mis)(actually it just sounds like Kay-mis, but the other way is more fun) is a young powerlifter who has made tremendous strides in powerlifting since he started training with us just over 10 months ago. John had a little experience lifting weights when he came to us, but had a desire to get much stronger and develop into a powerlifting competitor.
His consistency and effort has helped him become one of the strongest little dudes around, building a 400+ pound deadlift with a body weight under 160 pounds!
When he gets around to competing in his first powerlifting meet, his totals will qualify him for his age group (Teen, 18-19 years) as well as one age group up (Junior, 20-23 years) for USA Powerlifting Raw National Championships.
This hard working kid’s future in powerlifting is bright. He is constantly seeking more information to gain a better understanding of the sport and the how’s and why’s of training.
Before we let him speak for himself, here’s John before he came to Force Barbell and started lifting…
Force Barbell: Tell us a little about who you are and what you do.
JK: I’m John Khamis and am going to be studying to become a pharmacist at the greatest school ever, Purdue University.
FB: What do you like to do in your free time when you aren’t working, educating yourself, or working out?
JK: In my free time I play a lot of chess and sometimes video games. I also go longboarding with friends frequently.
FB: You just graduated high school and are heading to Purdue in the fall. What are your plans for the future?
JK: I want to be living the American dream, with a big house and a loving family working as a pharmacist.
FB: Why do you train? How long have you been training at Force Barbell? Why did you choose to start training with us?
JK: I train because there is no better feeling for me than pulling or pushing big heavy weight. I deadlifted over 400 pounds for the first time recently and it was truly one of the greatest feelings I’ve ever experienced.
I have been training as a powerlifter at Force Barbell for just under a year now. I chose Force Barbell because I knew this would be the place I would have to train to continually make steady progress and indeed I have. Force Barbell has helped me put over 170 pounds onto my total in the past 10 months.
You cannot make the progress you see here by working out on your own or at any other gym. The coaches continually provide objective knowledge about physiology, anatomy and physics.
FB: What advice do you have for somebody looking to start training?
JK: My advice to someone new to training would be that they need a positive environment. If you’re in an environment where you are to keep to yourself and be quiet, you won’t make much progress, but if you are at a gym where you are encouraged to be as loud as possible and be social then you will make progress everyday.

We look forward to watching Khamis continue to develop as a powerlifter and dominate in life as he heads off to school this fall, but we will miss his consistent presence in the gym. Boiler Up!
