This weekend, Force Barbell is hosting a “Try Weightlifting for Free” Day.
You may wonder what the sport of Weightlifting is or why you would want to try it.
First, Weightlifting is a sport. It’s different from weight lifting. The sport entails two types of lifts: the snatch and the clean and jerk.
This is the snatch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0qYMtJXR0LQ
And this is the clean and jerk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fN5zkWm_Ks
Both movements involve a lot of strength, power, speed, and technical efficiency. This is what the sport is all about, and it’s why some of the strongest humans in the world can’t perform a solid snatch or clean and jerk without a lot of practice, because they don’t have the technical efficiency. I will explain a few reasons why someone with an average fitness level should want to give Weightlifting a try.
1) It’s Something New
You should give Weightlifting a try just because it’s something new. It’s a nuanced sport that’s very difficult. Even though people tend to hesitate when trying something new, most of the time we’re proud that we gave it a try and enjoy that feeling of being a kid again—where we’re completely unsure of what we’re doing but are trying our best anyway. Most people see the Weightlifting movements done but don’t think there’s any way they could possibly do them. Or they think they’ll get hurt giving it a try. This is false if you find the right coaches. This is why you should come to Force Barbell and try our FREE Weightlifting day–>https://www.facebook.com/events/291820124685233/. The sport of Weightlifting is very complex, so there’s always something new to work on. It can become a new hobby that can add some meaning and value to your life. It’s appropriate for most age levels. There are competition divisions for Youth (age 11 and under) and Masters (age 55 and up).
2) Strength, Speed, Motor Coordination
It should be a given that someone would want to try Weightlifting just for its physical benefits. If you’re an athlete, the Weightlifting movements can be a great tool to help you increase your strength, speed, and overall coordination. The movements are tools, so it’s important that you use these tools correctly. This is why you should sign up for our FREE Weightlifting Day…to learn to do the movements correctly. Just spending one day with a good coach can teach you how to properly use your legs to accelerate an external object, properly decelerate an external object, learn correct movement patterns to enhance your mobility, and increase your overall athletic characteristics. All of these benefits should strike interest in anyone currently competing in a sport. But, why would others be interested in these things? Well, it’s because any time we’re not intentionally developing or enhancing those characteristics, we’re losing them. While some people don’t compete in sports, they do compete in life. And, if there’s any way to thrive in our physical lives, we need to increase the characteristics that are associated with Weightlifting.
3) The Community
If there’s one community that’s very passionate about what it does and is very supportive of its members, it’s the Weightlifting community. I can only speak for Indiana Weightlifting and the few National meets that I’ve attended, but there seems to be a trend. You see, a lot of athletes go out of their way to support one another. Coaches take the time to network with and encourage other coaches, and a lot of people are very passionate about a sport that most Americans aren’t involved in. Getting your feet wet in Weightlifting will also give you the opportunity to join a supportive community, which can make anyone’s life just a bit better. For that reason alone, you should give Weightlifting a try.

4) FUN
Last but not least, everyone should try Weightlifting, simply because it’s fun. While this is just my strong opinion, I want to explain what makes it fun. Weightlifting isn’t fun because of the snatch and clean and jerk. Weightlifting is fun because of the process. Like I mentioned earlier, Weightlifting is a very difficult sport. The process, at times, can be very frustrating, because the lifts can be so physically demanding and technically difficult. However, this is what makes it so enjoyable and rewarding. It makes the good lifts all that much sweeter; it gives you admiration for the people who have been doing it for a long time and the coaches who have the patience to stay with it for so long. Weightlifting gives you a deep respect for the process. This is why I’m talking about more than just the sport of Weightlifting. It’s a way to add that extra something special to your life. Weightlifting can help you develop certain skills that’ll help you with your job, your relationships, and with certain goals that you never felt fully committed to. It might just be that hobby you’ve never found but have always been looking for. Come to Force Barbell this Saturday, learn about Weightlifting, and give it a try. You’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain.
